About

WinTieorWrangle.ca is a project of the estate of Paul Kitchen. Paul Kitchen, 1937-2015, was a librarian, executive director of the Canadian Library Association, Ottawa-based hockey historian, and a past president of the Society for International Hockey Research.

Paul dedicated seven years to researching and writing the history of the old Ottawa Senators. Win, Tie, Or Wrangle: The Inside Story of the Old Ottawa Senators, 1883-1935 was published in 2008 by Penumbra Press. It is the one and only definitive history of the original Ottawa Senators. Drawing on previously unexposed diaries, memoirs, hockey-club business records, and government files, it tells the story of the capital’s first hockey team from its birth in 1883 to its demise as the St. Louis Eagles in 1935.
